†Diogenornis fragilis is an extinct large flightless bird from the Eocene of Brazil, tentatively assigned to the rhea lineage (Rheiformes). Known from fragmentary limb bones, this carnivorous or omnivorous ratite inhabited early Cenozoic South American environments. Its discovery adds to the poorly documented early Paleogene avifauna of South America.
Diet & Feeding
Diogenornis fragilis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
