†Duntroonornis parvus is an extinct small carnivorous bird from Oligocene deposits of New Zealand. Its fossils were recovered from near Duntroon in the South Island's limestone country. Classified among early procellariiform or wading bird relatives, this diminutive species adds to New Zealand's poorly known Oligocene avifauna during the period of maximum marine transgression.
Diet & Feeding
Duntroonornis parvus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
