† Gallirallus huiatua — an extinct rail from New Zealand or Pacific islands. Flightless carnivore-omnivore; went extinct following Polynesian colonization. Part of the extraordinarily diverse but largely extinct Gallirallus radiation. Maori name reflects indigenous awareness of the species.
Diet & Feeding
Gallirallus huiatua was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
