Ortalis tantala is an extinct chachalaca (Cracidae) from the Neogene of the United States. A large arboreal galliform, it documents the former presence of cracid birds in North America before their restriction to Central and South America.
Diet & Feeding
Ortalis tantala was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
