Agilisaurus louderbacki

Agilisaurus louderbacki

†Agilisaurus louderbacki was a small basal ornithopod from the Middle Jurassic (~168 Ma) of Sichuan, China. Only about 1.7m long and 40kg, this bipedal herbivore was agile and fleet-footed. Named by Peng in 1992 from a nearly complete skeleton found in Zigong, it is one of the best-preserved Middle Jurassic ornithischians and provides key data on early ornithopod evolution.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivore

Agilisaurus louderbacki was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.

Time Period

Jurassic Middle Mesozoic Era

Agilisaurus louderbacki lived during the Jurassic Middle period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 174,7 to 161,5 million years ago.

Dinosaur diversity continued to increase, with the evolution of large sauropods and diverse theropods. Stegosaurs first appeared, and the supercontinent Pangaea was breaking apart.
