† Calonectris wingatei is an extinct shearwater species belonging to the pelagic seabird genus Calonectris, family Procellariidae. As a marine carnivore, it foraged over open ocean for fish and cephalopods. Known from limited fossil material of uncertain provenance, this species contributes to understanding the deeper evolutionary history of Calonectris shearwaters and the diversity of procellariid seabirds during the Neogene prior to the modern assemblage of species.
Diet & Feeding
Calonectris wingatei was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
