Antigone cubensis

†Antigone cubensis (Cuban Sandhill Crane) was an extinct subspecies or species of sandhill crane from Cuba, known from Late Pleistocene and Holocene deposits. A large wading carnivore-omnivore that fed on invertebrates, vertebrates, seeds, and plant material, it became extinct following human colonisation of the Caribbean. Its remains document Cuba's formerly rich Quaternary avifauna.
