Aprosdokitos mikrotero

Aprosdokitos mikrotero

†Aprosdokitos mikrotero was an extinct penguin from Eocene or Oligocene Antarctica. A small carnivorous diving seabird feeding on fish and squid, its name means 'unexpected small one' in Greek, reflecting its diminutive size relative to the giant penguins that characterised early Cenozoic Antarctic avifaunas. Its fossils add to the remarkable early penguin diversity known from Antarctic deposits.
