Aythya shihuibas

Aythya shihuibas is an extinct diving duck from Neogene deposits of China. This herbivorous anatid is related to modern pochards and scaup of the genus Aythya and provides evidence for early diversification of diving ducks in East Asia. Its fossils contribute to biogeographic models of the Aythyini tribe's origin and dispersal across the Palearctic.
