Barornis regens is an extinct large bird from Eocene or Oligocene deposits of the United States. This herbivorous bird is known from fragmentary material possibly representing an early anseriform or gruiform. Its systematic placement remains uncertain, but it contributes to the sparse North American Paleogene bird record and demonstrates early avian diversification after the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary.
Diet & Feeding
Barornis regens was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
