Brontornithinae

Brontornithinae

Brontornithinae is an extinct subfamily of large phorusrhacid-related birds from Oligocene–Miocene deposits of Argentina. These carnivorous or possibly omnivorous giant ground birds included some of the most massive avians ever to walk South America. Their classification within phorusrhacids or as a separate cariamiform lineage remains debated among avian paleontologists.
