An extinct harrier from New Zealand, Circus eylesi was a large carnivorous raptor named in honour of J.W. Eyles. Considerably larger than the living Australasian harrier, it likely preyed on moa chicks and other New Zealand birds. It became extinct following Polynesian settlement and the associated loss of its prey species.
Diet & Feeding
Circus eylesi was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
