<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="aenigmavis-sapea"></dinofyi-dinosaur>Aenigmavis sapea is an extinct bird from the Eocene (~45 Ma) of Messel, Germany. A small rail-like bird of uncertain systematic placement, it was part of the extraordinary Messel fossil fauna preserved in oil shale. The Messel site (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) has produced exceptionally preserved Eocene birds with feathers and soft tissue.
Diet & Feeding
Aenigmavis sapea was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
