†Anomalopteryx was a small moa (order Dinornithiformes) endemic to New Zealand, representing the smallest moa genus at roughly 60cm tall. A flightless herbivore that browsed forest understorey vegetation, it became extinct following Polynesian settlement approximately 600 years ago. Its remains are known from both North and South Island subfossil deposits.
Diet & Feeding
Anomalopteryx was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
