† Centrornis is an extinct genus of large aepyornithid bird from Madagascar, related to the elephant birds. A large herbivore and likely flightless, it consumed fruits, seeds, and plant matter in Madagascar's forests and grasslands. Known from subfossil material, Centrornis inhabited Madagascar through the Holocene before the megafaunal extinction wave that followed human colonization of the island. It represents part of Madagascar's spectacular but now largely lost endemic avifauna.
Diet & Feeding
Centrornis was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
