Colymboides minutus

The type species of Colymboides, C. minutus ('small loon-like') was described from Eocene deposits of France and is one of the earliest well-documented gaviiform birds. A small carnivorous diving bird, it documents the early post-Cretaceous radiation of loon-like birds in European marine and freshwater environments during the Paleogene.

Colymboides minutus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
