Cyanolimnas cerverai, the Zapata rail, is a critically endangered flightless rail (Rallidae) endemic to the Zapata Swamp of Cuba. Approximately 29 cm long, it feeds on invertebrates in dense sawgrass and sedge marshes. Known only from a small area, it faces extinction from introduced predators, hunting, and periodic burning of its swamp habitat. Named after Cuban naturalist Carlos de la Torre y Huerta, it is one of the rarest birds in the world.
Diet & Feeding
Cyanolimnas cerverai was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
