† Fulica prisca — an extinct fossil coot from New Zealand Pleistocene deposits. Aquatic herbivore; morphologically similar to the extant Australasian coot. The 'ancient coot' documents the deep history of Rallidae in New Zealand before Polynesian and European colonization.
