† Gallirallus huiatua — an extinct rail from New Zealand or Pacific islands. Flightless carnivore-omnivore; went extinct following Polynesian colonization. Part of the extraordinarily diverse but largely extinct Gallirallus radiation. Maori name reflects indigenous awareness of the species.
