† Gavia fortis — an extinct robust Pleistocene loon from the Americas. Large piscivorous diving bird; 'fortis' (robust, strong) reflects its larger body size compared to extant loons. Went extinct during Pleistocene-Holocene transition; possibly affected by climate change and human hunting.

Gavia fortis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
