† Megalosaurus bucklandii was the first dinosaur formally described scientifically (1824, by William Buckland). A large Middle Jurassic theropod from England at ~6m and ~700kg, this carnivore was originally interpreted as a giant lizard before the Dinosauria concept was established.

Larus elmorei was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
