†Aramidae is the monotypic bird family containing only the living Limpkin (Aramus guarauna) and its fossil relatives. Known from Eocene to Recent deposits, Aramidae members are carnivore-omnivores specialising in aquatic snails and mussels. Fossil Aramidae from North America and elsewhere document the once-greater diversity of this gruiform lineage before modern species winnowing.
Diet & Feeding
Aramidae was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
