Bullockornis

Bullockornis

† Bullockornis, sometimes called the 'Demon Duck of Doom,' was a giant flightless bird from the Miocene of Australia. Standing roughly 2.5 m tall and weighing an estimated 250 kg, it belonged to the enigmatic family Dromornithidae. Despite being classified here as herbivorous, its enormous hooked beak suggests it may have been capable of consuming hard plant material or even vertebrate prey. It is among the largest birds ever to have existed in Australia.
