Burhinus lucorum

Burhinus lucorum

† Burhinus lucorum is an extinct species of thick-knee (family Burhinidae) from Pleistocene fossil deposits in the United States. Thick-knees are crepuscular and nocturnal wading birds with carnivorous diets consisting of insects, small vertebrates, and invertebrates. This extinct species inhabited open, arid or semi-arid environments, and its presence in North America indicates a formerly broader geographic range for the Burhinidae during the Pleistocene.
