Carmelopodus untermannorum

Carmelopodus untermannorum

† Carmelopodus untermannorum is a theropod ichnospecies from the Middle Jurassic of Utah or Colorado, United States. The species is named in honor of geologists Ronald and Fran Untermann. Its three-toed carnivore tracks record one of the earliest known ichnological evidence of theropod dinosaur activity in the Jurassic of the Colorado Plateau, contributing to the sparse Middle Jurassic dinosaur record of North America, a time interval underrepresented in the western interior fossil record.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivore

Carmelopodus untermannorum was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.

Time Period

Jurassic Middle Mesozoic Era

Carmelopodus untermannorum lived during the Jurassic Middle period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 174,7 to 161,5 million years ago.

Dinosaur diversity continued to increase, with the evolution of large sauropods and diverse theropods. Stegosaurs first appeared, and the supercontinent Pangaea was breaking apart.
