† Thecodontosaurus is an Early Jurassic sauropodomorph from Britain and southern Africa, a small plant-eater and one of the most primitive prosauropods. Its name ('socket-toothed lizard') refers to its teeth set in individual sockets rather than fused to the jawbone.

Jurassic Early Mesozoic Era

Thecodontosaurus lived during the Jurassic Early period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 201,4 to 174,7 million years ago.

After the Triassic-Jurassic extinction, dinosaurs rapidly diversified and became the dominant land vertebrates. Early sauropods and theropods began to evolve larger body sizes.
