Tonsala hildegardae is the type species of Tonsala, an extinct Miocene bird from the United States. Like other members of its group, it inhabited mid-Miocene North American terrestrial environments during a period of significant avian diversification.

Tonsala hildegardae was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
