Allgoviachen tortonica

Allgoviachen tortonica is an extinct goose from the Miocene (~10 Ma) of Bavaria, Germany. A large waterfowl from the Tortonian stage of the Upper Miocene, it was recovered from fluvial deposits of the Upper Freshwater Molasse. Named by Göhlich in 2003, it represents the ancient European goose lineage that existed before modern Anser and Branta geese became established.
