About 40-50cm long, it is a small brown dabbling duck closely related to the Mallard. Reduced to fewer than 2,000 individuals, it faces threats from hybridization with introduced Mallards, habitat loss, and predation by introduced mongooses and rats. Active conservation measures include captive breeding.
Diet & Feeding
Anas wyvilliana was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
