<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="aechmophorus-lucasi"></dinofyi-dinosaur>Aechmophorus lucasi is an extinct grebe from the Pliocene (~3 Ma) of California, USA. Related to the modern Western Grebe, it was an aquatic diving bird adapted to freshwater and coastal marine environments. Known from the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park deposits, it is one of several fossil grebes that document the evolutionary history of this diving bird lineage.
Diet & Feeding
Aechmophorus lucasi was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
