<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="apteribis-brevis"></dinofyi-dinosaur>†Apteribis brevis was a flightless ibis endemic to Maui, Hawaii, known from Holocene subfossil cave and dune deposits. A stocky, short-billed probing bird, it used its downcurved bill to search litter and soil for invertebrates. Extinct since approximately the 13th century CE following Polynesian arrival and hunting, its fossils are preserved in lava tube and sinkhole deposits across Maui.
Diet & Feeding
Apteribis brevis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
