†Cyrtonyx cooki is an extinct species of Montezuma quail relative (family Odontophoridae) discovered in the United States. This herbivorous ground bird inhabited late Cenozoic grasslands and scrublands. Its dental morphology and robust tarsometatarsus indicate a lifestyle of ground-foraging on seeds and plant material.
Diet & Feeding
Cyrtonyx cooki was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
