†Dinornis giganteus is one of the largest species of giant moa from New Zealand, possibly standing up to 3.6 m in height. Females were substantially larger than males due to extreme sexual size dimorphism — a feature confusing early taxonomists who described them as multiple species. This flightless herbivore was a dominant browser in New Zealand's pre-human forests.
Diet & Feeding
Dinornis giganteus was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
