†Dinornithidae is the extinct family of giant moas containing Dinornis and its close relatives, endemic to New Zealand. These large flightless ratites ranged from 1.5 to 3.6 m tall and dominated the herbivore guild in New Zealand's ecosystems for millions of years. All nine moa species were driven to extinction by Polynesian settlers within 200 years of their arrival.
Diet & Feeding
Dinornithidae was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
