Small to medium herbivore; from the Lower Lufeng Formation. Part of the diverse Yunnan prosauropod fauna that includes Yunnanosaurus and Lufengosaurus. Represents the early phase of sauropodomorph divers.

Irisosaurus yimenensis lived during the Jurassic Early period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 201.4 to 174.7 million years ago.
