Aix praeclara is an extinct perching duck from the Miocene (~12 Ma) of China. Related to the modern Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata) and Wood Duck (Aix sponsa), it was a forest-dwelling waterfowl that nested in tree cavities. Its fossil material from Shandong Province documents the deep evolutionary history of the Aix duck lineage in Asia.
Diet & Feeding
Aix praeclara was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
