The largest known plotopterid seabird, Copepteryx titan from Oligocene Japan reached estimated heights exceeding an emperor penguin, making it among the largest diving birds of all time. This carnivorous wing-propelled diver inhabited North Pacific marine environments and is known from excellent material including articulated wing bones showing penguin-like flipper modifications.
