†Aquila pliogryps was an extinct eagle from Pliocene North America, potentially related to modern Golden Eagles or a distinct lineage. A large terrestrial carnivore hunting ground-dwelling prey in open grassland environments, its fossils from western United States document the pre-Pleistocene diversity of North American Aquila eagles before significant Quaternary faunal turnover.
Diet & Feeding
Aquila pliogryps was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
