<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="coenocorypha-iredalei"></dinofyi-dinosaur>An extinct snipe from New Zealand named in honour of ornithologist Tom Iredale, Coenocorypha iredalei belonged to the endemic snipe genus of New Zealand and its offshore islands. A carnivorous probing wader, it became extinct on the North or South Island following the arrival of Polynesian settlers and accompanying predators including the Pacific rat.
Diet & Feeding
Coenocorypha iredalei was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
