†Dinornis novaezealandiae (North Island giant moa) is an extinct giant ratite from the North Island of New Zealand. A large flightless herbivore, it fed on leaves, fruits, and seeds of New Zealand's temperate forests. DNA studies have revealed that this species, like other moa, exhibited extreme reversed sexual size dimorphism, with females far larger than males.
Diet & Feeding
Dinornis novaezealandiae was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
