† Palaeogrus hordwelliensis was an extinct crane (Gruidae) from Europe. A large carnivorous wading bird, it inhabited shallow freshwater and coastal habitats during the Eocene. Its fossils document an early phase of crane evolution predating modern Grus diversity.
