Xenicus

Xenicus

Xenicus is a genus of New Zealand wrens (Acanthisittidae), with the rock wren (X. gilviventris) being the sole living species. These small insectivores are the most primitive living passerines, representing an ancient southern lineage isolated in New Zealand.

Xenicus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
