An extinct snipe from Fiji, Coenocorypha miratropica is a remarkable record of the New Zealand snipe genus from a tropical Pacific island. A carnivorous wading bird, its presence in Fiji suggests that the Coenocorypha lineage once extended well beyond New Zealand across the southwest Pacific before extinction from introduced predators and habitat loss.
Diet & Feeding
Coenocorypha miratropica was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
