Cygnopterus is an extinct genus of large swan-like waterfowl (Anatidae) known from Neogene deposits of Asia and Europe. A grazing herbivore of freshwater lakes and rivers, it fed on aquatic vegetation and grasses. The genus name means 'swan-winged,' reflecting its large wingspan and presumed migratory capability. Several species are distributed across Eurasia, suggesting widespread Neogene dispersal by this lineage before the Quaternary climate oscillations.
Diet & Feeding
Cygnopterus was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
