Tetrasauropus

Tetrasauropus

† Tetrasauropus is a Triassic ichnogenus representing quadrupedal dinosauriform tracks, with the oldest material from Argentina. These early tracks document the emergence of large-bodied dinosauriforms during the earliest phases of dinosaur evolution.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivore

Tetrasauropus was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.

Time Period

Triassic Middle Mesozoic Era

Tetrasauropus lived during the Triassic Middle period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 247,2 to 237,0 million years ago.

The middle Triassic saw the continued recovery of life and the emergence of early dinosauriforms. Archosaurs diversified into the ancestors of both dinosaurs and crocodilians.
