Agnosphitys cromhallensis

Agnosphitys cromhallensis

†Agnosphitys cromhallensis is a controversial early dinosauriform from the Late Triassic (~228 Ma) of Somerset, England. Known from fragmentary remains including teeth and limb bones, its classification as a true dinosaur is debated — it may be a very early herrerasaurid or a more basal dinosauriform. Named by Fraser et al. in 2002, it is one of the oldest potential dinosaurs from Europe.

Time Period

Triassic Late Mesozoic Era

Agnosphitys cromhallensis lived during the Triassic Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 237.0 to 201.4 million years ago.

The first true dinosaurs appeared during the late Triassic, including early theropods like Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus. Dinosaurs were still small and not yet dominant. The period ended with the Triassic-Jurassic extinction event.
