Alexornithiformes

Alexornithiformes

Alexornithiformes is an order of extinct enantiornithine birds known primarily from the Late Cretaceous of North America and Asia. These small to medium perching birds were part of the dominant Mesozoic avian lineage. Like all enantiornithines, they went extinct at the K-Pg boundary 66 Ma, leaving no descendants — in contrast to the ornithuromorphs that gave rise to modern birds.

Alexornithiformes lived during the Cretaceous Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 100,5 to 66,0 million years ago.

The final age of dinosaurs, featuring iconic species like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Velociraptor. Dinosaurs reached their peak diversity before the catastrophic asteroid impact at the Chicxulub crater ended the Mesozoic Era.
