Anhinga malagurala

Anhinga malagurala

†Anhinga malagurala was an extinct darter bird from Pleistocene to Holocene Australia. A freshwater fish-hunting specialist with a long sharp bill and modified neck vertebrae enabling rapid lunge strikes, it inhabited inland waterways. Its remains indicate that darter birds had a broader Australian distribution before regional wetland contractions during the late Quaternary.
