Upupa antaios is an extinct giant hoopoe from Pleistocene or Holocene cave deposits of Saint Helena Island, South Atlantic. Much larger than the living common hoopoe, it likely evolved enlarged body size as an island ecological generalist before going extinct.
Diet & Feeding
Upupa antaios primarily fed on insects and other small invertebrates. Insectivorous dinosaurs were typically small-bodied and agile, with adaptations suited for catching small prey.
