Ekrixinatosaurus novasi

Ekrixinatosaurus novasi

† Ekrixinatosaurus novasi is a large abelisaurid theropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian) Candeleros Formation of Neuquén Province, Argentina. Estimated at 10–11 m in length and 4 tonnes, it was one of the apex predators of Patagonian Gondwana. Its name means 'explosion-born lizard,' referring to the dynamite-blasting that exposed its fossils. Named in honour of palaeontologist Fernando Novas, it possessed the characteristically short arms and deep skull of large abelisaurids.
